Welcome to my Blog!

    Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Leeds, and I am from Fort Lauderdale Fl. I currently go to USF and live in the Tampa Bay area. I am majoring in Health Science with concentrations in Biology and Health IT. I enjoy being outside and swimming. I love going camping and have been trying to prepare for a hike-in camp trip. I go camping whenever I can with my best friend, and I am currently planning a trip to Georgia's Providence Canyon. I currently work as a lifeguard at USF, but I have experience in retail and I have volunteered at an animal clinic for a short period of time. Currently, my favorite social media platform is Snapchat because it is more personal. I like being able to talk one on one with my friends and see what they are doing that day if they decide to post. This is not my first time creating a blog. In high school, I had to make a blog for an engineering course to document our progress over the class. I do not keep up with that blog as it was specifically meant for a class in high school. I do not have experience reading blogs. I personally haven't ever gotten into reading others' blogs. I dislike having to think about posting a blog, but I do really enjoy documenting things. Before posting this blog I had gone through my high school blog. It was pretty amusing to read through and remember all the things that had happened. At the time I found it tedious to write, but I did enjoy reading it later so it was worth it. I am excited to start a new blog, and I hope I have a lot of fun with it! This is going to be a great semester!

I enjoyed the We Are Data reading mainly because of how it explained humans are sortable data. Everything we post makes it easier to sort us into different categories. I had already been more aware recently of what I posted, but readings like this make me extra aware. My mom had always warned me when I was younger about not posting things I shouldn't for future employers. I had always listened, but in the back of my mind, I thought my posts were private so what did it matter. Though the posts are private and not everyone can see them, they are still data that is sorted. Anything posted is data. Being aware of this, even though people may not see your personal posts doesn't mean the data wasn't on the app. Though this isn't necessarily clearly stated it is something to be aware of when posting. I tracked my social media usage over the past 4 days, and I saw definite traces of a routine. The platforms I used over the 4 days include Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. I only use social media on my phone, I have used Instagram on my laptop before, but I prefer the app. Over the 4 days, I only used social media on my phone. There was a visible routine of usage in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. The amount of time spent on the apps changed from day to day. On the first day, I was on social media the least, spending only 58 minutes in total. I went on Instagram for 2 minutes at 10 am, then I went onto Snapchat around 1-2 pm for 26 minutes, and finally, in the evening I spent 30 minutes on TikTok and Instagram combined from 7-8 pm and around 11 pm.
