Hands-On Assignment 2 #USFLIS4380SMS20

    I would define media as a medium for communicating information to the masses and social networking as the act of communicating using social media. I haven't gotten very far into this post and I've already rewritten everything too many times to count. I keep having to rethink my own definitions and what they really mean. I would consider communicating to be direct as in we send words to one another. Though communicating through social media is much simpler, it is just sending someone a post and no words along with it. Communicating using social media could just be posting to tell your followers something. Basically, social media communication isn't always direct one-to-one but sent out for many.

    The social networking sites I use are Youtube, Tiktok, Reddit, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook. I mainly use Instagram and Facebook to scroll or check on family and friends. I don't take part in the communities as much, but I like to be able to see what is going on. I treat these accounts as more professional, and I definitely keep a more put-together image on them. I just go on Tiktok and Reddit for entertainment, I do not post but I do comment and take part in communities. Snapchat I use more similar to a messaging app, I don't post often. I use Facebook and Reddit the least often. I have to think about going on them. I usually make the active decision to go on either app for usually a specific reason such as to look something up on Facebook. Instagram, Snapchat, and Youtube I go on easily more than once a day. Instagram makes me compare myself to others so I have to remind myself not to. Because of this, I am trying to stay off the app, I set a timer on my phone so I get a warning when I've been on the app for 15 minutes. Snapchat and Youtube don't affect my views as much. Snapchat is my social media of choice because I prefer direct communication. Social media brings the world together but on a regular basis, I like a small circle to contact.

I enjoyed the We Are Data reading mainly because of how it explained humans are sortable data. Everything we post makes it easier to sort us into different categories. I had already been more aware recently of what I posted, but readings like this make me extra aware. My mom had always warned me when I was younger about not posting things I shouldn't for future employers. I had always listened, but in the back of my mind, I thought my posts were private so what did it matter. Though the posts are private and not everyone can see them, they are still data that is sorted. Anything posted is data. Being aware of this, even though people may not see your personal posts doesn't mean the data wasn't on the app. Though this isn't necessarily clearly stated it is something to be aware of when posting.      Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Leeds, and I am from Fort Lauderdale Fl. I currently go to USF and live in the Tampa Bay area. I am majoring in Health Science with concentrations in Biology and Health IT. I enjoy being outside and swimming. I love going camping and have been trying to prepare for a hike-in camp trip. I tracked my social media usage over the past 4 days, and I saw definite traces of a routine. The platforms I used over the 4 days include Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. I only use social media on my phone, I have used Instagram on my laptop before, but I prefer the app. Over the 4 days, I only used social media on my phone. There was a visible routine of usage in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. The amount of time spent on the apps changed from day to day. On the first day, I was on social media the least, spending only 58 minutes in total. I went on Instagram for 2 minutes at 10 am, then I went onto Snapchat around 1-2 pm for 26 minutes, and finally, in the evening I spent 30 minutes on TikTok and Instagram combined from 7-8 pm and around 11 pm.
